1Password signs strategic collaboration agreement with AWS and launches new secrets syncing integration

1Password has signed a strategic collaboration agreement (SCA) with AWS to help modern enterprises close security blindspots, accelerate secure cloud adoption, and build in increasingly complex hybrid and AI-driven environments.

This collaboration is a long-term commitment to co-innovation, global growth, and expanding support for our shared customers. It also reflects the rising demand from enterprise organizations for secure, scalable access across cloud environments that support developers and AI agents alike. The new SCA also fuels global expansion and accelerates innovation in agentic AI via co-developed solutions.

At 1Password, we’re excited to deepen our alignment across the AWS ecosystem. 1Password Extended Access Management is already available in AWS Marketplace, enabling businesses to secure every sign-in, to every app, from every device.

To kick off the strategic collaboration, we’re launching a secrets syncing integration with AWS that extends the reach of 1Password Extended Access Management to the world’s leading cloud platform. AWS customers can use the new integration to eliminate secret sprawl, simplify cross environment credential sharing, improve visibility, and strengthen governance while boosting developer productivity.

A mission to solve secrets sprawl and reinforce cloud security

Modern organizations are building faster and integrating AI deeper into everyday workflows. As we’ve written, security leaders are rethinking how to protect identities as cloud workloads, applications, and agentic AI systems multiply.

At the same time, secrets management is becoming an increasingly fragmented and high-risk process. Secrets – like API keys, tokens, and credentials – are the backbone of modern software, and managing them securely is essential to protecting customer data, maintaining trust, and enabling fast, confident innovation. Yet teams often struggle to keep secrets in sync across systems, environments, and contributors, leading to operational bottlenecks and secrets sprawl – the uncontrolled spread of sensitive information across systems and code.

Our collaboration with AWS directly addresses that challenge. By combining 1Password’s human-centric security with AWS’s leading cloud platform, we’re making it easier for development teams to deliver secrets securely, consistently, and at scale – while preparing for the next frontier of automation and intelligent agents.

A new AWS Secrets Manager integration – powered by 1Password Extended Access Management

As the first release under the SCA, we’re launching an integration between 1Password Extended Access Management and AWS Secrets Manager that makes it fast and frictionless to sync secrets across environments – no code, SDKs, or complex setup is required.

The integration is accessible through the 1Password password manager desktop app via 1Password environments, which now enable you to:

  • Manage secrets and sync them to AWS Secrets Manager – no coding or SDK configuration needed.
  • Empower teams to manage scoped environments independently, with security controls already baked in.

This new integration is part of our mission to help AWS customers close the widening Access-Trust Gap – the security risks from unmanaged apps and AI-powered tools that access company data without proper governance or security. Whether you’re developing traditional applications or AI agents, 1Password environments reduce risk and complexity by consolidating secrets management and enforcing secure, scoped access to application secrets

This release is backed by confidential computing to ensure secrets are never exposed as plaintext. It’s the fastest, most straightforward way to keep secrets safe and in sync, whether managing traditional apps or rapidly evolving AI systems.

Getting started with 1Password environments

With 1Password environments, teams can:

  • Deliver secrets without complexity. Deliver secrets securely using only the 1Password password manager desktop app.
  • Simplify secrets management. Give your team an easier way to manage secrets and onboard new team members directly from the 1Password desktop app.
  • Streamline deployments. Ensure apps receive the latest secrets automatically and securely.
  • Minimize operational bottlenecks. Provide team members with scoped, secure access to the secrets they need without lengthy approval processes.

What’s next

The strategic collaboration agreement with AWS isn’t just a partnership; it’s an acknowledgment of where the world is heading. We’re excited to collaborate and further modernize access security for today’s cloud-first enterprises.

As identity and automation converge, 1Password and AWS will continue to work together to ensure secure access is never a bottleneck, no matter what you’re building next.
